How Puma are kicking goals

By | May 14, 2015

PUMA is one of the world’s leading sports brands specialising in footwear, apparel and accessories.  Their online store puma.com attracts around 2 million unique visitors per month  which places it behind rival Adidas and well behind market leader Nike.

Since 2007 Puma has been part of French group Kering (formerly known as Pinault-Printemps-Redoute or PPR).

Summary

We recommend that those intending to purchase Puma products first compare the prices on this site to those of other retailers who may offer cheaper prices and/or shipping for the same product. However the excellent returns policy (especially for those shoes in the “30 day test run program”) should mean that you can order from Puma with confidence.

Product Line

PUMA has a relatively small though specialised product line which fall into three general categories; shoes, clothing and accessories. Most products are sold for those actively participating in sports (such as soccer/foootball/golf boots) although increasingly PUMA has added more casual wear to its inventory, such as sweatshirts, shorts and polos, which can and are worn outside of active sport.

Website

Screenshot 2015-05-14 13.09.04Puma.com (and puma.ca in Canada) is well-designed and easy to use, without any stunning features. The site includes multiple photo angles for all products and customer reviews. We liked the “shipping” tab attached to each product so that shoppers are aware of their total price at checkout. No nasty surprises!

Shipping

Standard ground shipping within the continental US, costs $7 with increasing fees for expedited delivery. The $7 fee will be waived for orders of $75 or more. Savvy stay home shoppers should always keep an eye out for coupons and special deals that come up from time to time that offer free or reduced shipping charges.

International shipping rates vary from country to country.

Customer Service and Returns

Puma.com offer a 30-day unconditional return on unused merchandise in original condition.  This includes free return shipping.

In addition, Select Faas, Mobium, and IGNITE running shoes also qualify for what they call the “30 day test Run program”. This means that you get to try out the shoes for up to 30 days and then return them if not happy. “Go ahead. Get them dirty” the website implores.

Oddly, they do not allow exchanges, so you’ll need to have a purchase refunded and then make another order. Free ground shipping is provided, however, on the replacement order.

Loyalty program

Puma.com has no loyalty/rewards program.

I am a big fan of Puma shoes. I do like their site but it is a bummer they don’t have a loyalty program for awesome customers like me 😉

Know that feel. I too am head over heels over Puma’s range of shoes and other products. But the only thing which is a bit disappointing is the absence of a loyalty program. I mean, I’m buying some or the other thing from their online store every 2 months or so. And since the bill gets fairly fat by the end of the year, I’m left only with their products with no savings or cashback anywhere to be seen 🙁 I can easily get two if not more pair of shoes a year if they up that loyalty program.

Don’t really care if I’m in the minority, but I find Puma better than both Nike and Adidas, especially when it comes to their shoes. Most of the times, I prefer buying in-store only but couple of times when I bought from them through their official website, that experience too was nothing short of bliss. Everything was smooth as a butter. No complaints either with the brand or buying online through them.
