Amaysim is an Australian mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that offers a range of SIM-only mobile and data plans. Founded in 2010, Amaysim has constantly been amongst the cheapest SIM-only options available in Australia. Cheap is one thing for sure, but are Amaysim any good?
Amaysim offer three basic packages; as-you-go, flexi and unlimited. The As-you-go package has no fixed monthly fee or lock-in contract and charges you only for what you use. At 12c/min for all phone use, and 5c/MB for data it’s a pretty neat deal for the occasional user (like my elderly mother). Flexi plan is $19.95 per month and unlimited $39.95.

In comparison, Vodafone’s unlimited SIM only plan (@$50) only includes 1.5GB, so the 4GB on offer from Amaysim puts it well-in front.
To try it out, Ozphonereview purchased the Unlimited Plan for an I phone 5. Once we’d received the SIM, it took just 2 minutes to port our old number. Amaysim uses the Optus network – but no matter what they say it’s still no where near as good as Telstra’s, i.e speed, reception and it’s not currently 4G capable.
However, if you’re spending most of your time in metropolitan areas with decent coverage you’d hardly notice. Perhaps about 1 in 50 calls have been of poor quality. I’ve had no issues with FaceTime and Skype, though Youtube can load slowly.
In the SIM-only market, Amaysim continues to be the best value, even if the coverage isn’t as good as Telstra.
I’ve been using Amaysim for the last three years. Got sick of the pr%$#ks at Telstra. Great value.
